Five Tips for Improving Hydrocolloid Duplication
Accurate duplications increase efficiency and profit. BEGO's new WiroGel M multi-use hydrocolloid is even more cost-effective, since it works with both gypsum and refractory materials. To get more accurate duplications using hydrocolloid, BEGO suggests:
- Air-cooling instead of using a water bath. Water often cools stone models too quickly, causing the hot hydrocolloid to pull away from the model's surface, creating distortions.
- Letting a gentle stream of air from a fan pass by your flasks to reduce cooling time.
- Setting refractory material under pressure to increase accuracy and eliminate air bubbles on the model's surface. For optimum results, use air pressure of 25-30 PSI and BEGO's Wiropress. Do not use higher pressure settings.
- Cleaning the master model with mild soap and water to avoid contamination from disinfectants that can cause chalky or rough surfaces on duplicate models.
- Letting the hydrocolloid fully cool to room temperature before pouring stone or refractory material into the mold to avoid chalky or rough surfaces.
