| September 2007 | Courtesy of BEGO USA Drying-Up the Problem of Rough Surfaces on Castings
Smooth, clean casting surfaces are the goal of every C&B department. Rough castings or flashing can cause extra finishing time, ceramic problems, and lost profits.
Rough surfaces and flashing can be caused by:
Another cause of rough casts is also wet debubblizer left on the surface of the wax-up during investing. This problem can be easily eliminated.
When the interface between the investment and the wax surface is too moist, the solid particles of the investment do not pack tightly against the wax, leaving the wall of the investment rough. This leads to a rough surface on the cast alloy. Prevent rough surfaces by thoroughly drying the debubblizer or water rinsing completely before investing. Making sure the restoration is completely dry will help ensure smooth castings, decrease problems, and save your profits. Was this eTechTip Helpful? Give us your feedback. |
